Josh Zakim, Executive Director

Josh began his career in 2010 at Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) where he represented working families facing the loss of their homes to foreclosure at the hands of predatory lenders. At GBLS, Josh worked with stakeholders at all levels of government, his clients, and lenders to secure loan modifications that allowed many families to remain in their homes.

Before running for office, Josh worked in the Public Finance group of the law firm Mintz Levin, focusing his practice on municipal bond transactions for underwriters and borrowers like the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MassPort, and the MBTA.

In 2013, Josh was elected to the Boston City Council representing District 8 (Fenway, Kenmore Square, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Mission Hill, and the West End).

After six productive years on the City Council Josh chose not to seek reelection for a fourth term, leaving office in January 2020.

As a Boston City Councilor Josh was intimately involved in all aspects of Boston’s government, but has also had the opportunity to work regionally and across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. On the City Council, Josh chaired the Committee on Housing & Community Development; the Committee on Civil Rights; and the Special Committee on Transportation, Infrastructure, Planning, & Investment. In this capacity Josh convened policymakers and researchers to find solutions, and in many cases enacted legislation to address important issues including housing, transportation, small business growth, civil rights, and fiscal policy. Josh led by partnering with other municipalities, state government, colleges and universities, and leaders in the private sector to make important progress.

Josh lives in Boston with his wife Grace and son Leo.
